Xangati - providing total visibility into both physical and virtual IP and VMware environments

Xangati provides live to-the-second streaming views into the communication activity of any networked device on your IT infrastructure. This visibility provides a true understanding of what is happening on your complete network - in realtime.

Xangati is the first network activity monitor that can give visibility into both conventional IP and virtual networks and track applications across both.

Total Visibility of IP

Xangati solutions can track anything that has a presence on an IP infrastructure, which includes IP-networked devices (e.g., hypervisors, VMs, iSCSI targets, thin clients, VoIP phones, physical servers, etc.), applications and network interfaces.

For any of these elements, Xangati is aware of their application interactions with the rest of the infrastructure. The focus on interactions is essential as it shows the relationships between elements within your virtual ecosystem and between your virtual and physical domains. Only through this visibility can you see if elements on your infrastructure are communicating in the way you would expect. And because everything that is tracked is not only presented live, but has a history with it, you can monitor changes you make to show the positive effects and to ensure that nothing has been adversely affected.

  • Xangati tracks all end users, VLANs, servers, interfaces, applications 24x7
  • View what any IP is doing, what other IPs they are talking to, what applications they are running or interacting with- right now
  • Search for an endpoint, VLAN, server, interface, application by IP or name
  • See its live upstream and downstream network communication activity
  • Navigate to any upstream or downstream IP
  • Verify what's happening in seconds without configuring anything
  • See application, server, network and end user activity in one place – from one UI - with confidence that status is current
  • Manage by walking around and seeing what is happening live
  • No need to manually scour or synthesize outdated reports to get status

Easy to implement

Xangati provides a web-based management interface "Xangati Dashboard" installed on a Xangati device connected passively to your network. With no requirement for in-line configuration, Xangati starts collecting useful information immediately.

Passively Summarizes Communications and Collects Flow Data

Once configured the system begins to operate "out of the box" thanks to its exclusive reliance on pre-existing data sources already within your infrastructure.  One primary source of information is summarized communications or "flow data" which Xangati receives from physical switches and routers.  Flow data takes many forms including sFlow, cFlow, jFlow, NetFlow and IPFIX and is produced by protocols that run natively on routers and switches.  Flow data summarizes every IP to IP communication that traverses these devices, providing incredibly rich yet lightweight information to be continually pushed to products like Xangati. This push model allows a single Xangati appliance to passively receive data about all devices and interactions across the entire infrastructure.

Identifying All Your Resources

While having flow data is important to understand activity in its raw form, Xangati's system tries to "put a name to a face" by binding fixed identities like device names to IP addresses which are more often than not dynamically allocated. To do this Xangati simply leverages standing directories/databases that are within your infrastructure like Active Directory, LDAP, DNS, and RADIUS for physical object identities. In cases where these solutions may not apply, Xangati can also leverage SNMP to help tie the vendor specific MAC address of a device to an IP address. The result is that one knows not only about all application interactions, but which specific devices over time are driving them.

Complements Existing Manager of Manager Solutions

Xangati can be directly connected with your existing manager of manager (MOM) solutions from IBM, HP, CA, BMC, etc. by sending syslogs or traps that you want these solutions to process. And of equal importance, the Xangati solution is a complement to the standing investments that you have made in agents and probes. Xangati provides the details behind what is driving the CPU load your agents are measuring. And, Xangati can help you best determine what incremental investments you might need to make in these technologies—given the high cost of agents, it is best to understand first what areas need more specific device-level coverage first.

Xangati for ESX - Critical Visibility into VM activity

Most network tools lose visibility as a transaction "disappears" into the virtual cloud. Xangati is different and provides Xangati for ESX - a lightweight virtual appliance inside a VMware ESX/ESXi host.

Once deployed it provides visibility into all host communications including each VM and all physical infrastructure elements used by or using the host or any of its VMs. Xangati processes and analyzes all kinds of flow information, including communication flows obtained from the ESX vSwitch to provide its unique live, to-the-second views.

This visibility into VM-to-Anything communications provides a true understanding of what a VM is doing – far more than what its CPU, memory or disc usage can tell you.
