Remotely Managed Network Taps
10/100 12x2 Port Aggregator
10/100 12x2 Port Aggregator
Network Tap group: Copper Taps

The 10/100/1000 Port Aggregator provides an aggregated output for up to 12 10/100 links on 100/1000 monitoring ports. The network ports can be configured to operate in either span or inline mode giving the user flexibility to deploy multiple or all ports as inline taps while using the remaining ports as input streams only. Another configuration feature allows any of the 12 10/100 links to be selected for aggregation enabling the user to choose dynamically which or all of the 12 ports to monitor. A 64MB (512Mb) memory buffer catches overflow when all input ports are fully utilized.

The FIFO aggregation process preserves the original packet order. The only exception to this occurs when the ports are configured in Tap mode. In this case all Tap ports are aggregated as pairs before being aggregated with other Tap pairs or span ports. This ensures that packets of specific network origin are kept in order before being aggregated with other inputs.

All monitoring ports include 2 100/1000 aggregated TX ports combining all user-selected network inputs. This device enables local management via a serial console and remote management via telnet, web browser and SNMP. Extensive link diagnostics are available through each user interface.

10/100 1x3 SNMP Injection Tap
10/100 1x3 SNMP Injection Tap
Network Tap group: Copper Taps
The diagram shows the 1x3 Injection Tap in its normal state of operation. Firstly it enables fail safe monitoring and data regeneration to 3 devices whereby ports 2 and 3 aggregate the monitored traffic. Then once an intruder is detected the connected IPS can immediately respond by injecting a corrective bit pattern of any standard Ethernet packet format through the Tap and back to the network source without disruption.

The 10/100 1x3 Remotely Managed Injection Tap combines the features of the 1X3 Aggregation Tap with an injection port that enables a user to transmit or inject packets back into the network being monitored thereby enabling a unique and secure 64MB network access solution for Intrusion Prevention systems.

Allowing the fail-safe pass through of a duplex network over standard UTP cable, the Injection Tap serves first to make exact copies of the network traffic, reclock the data and then transmit the copied data to two aggregation and one non aggregation monitoring ports. An injection port enables any non-jumbo Ethernet packet (such as a TCP reset) or even a lengthy packet stream to be sent back to the network.

VSS monitoring’s remotely managed Injection Tap is made further unique by enabling control via the serial and Ethernet ports. Management interfaces include the serial and telnet consoles, any web browser and any SNMP manager. No proprietary software is required. Controlling the Tap remotely enables the injection port to be opened / closed by any remote IPS or console thereby ensuring the user need not visit the Tap to open/close the port and can thereby maintain the Tap’s stealth advantages when injecting data.

The Tap’s status indicators including power status, link, activity, speed, any possible buffer overflow and data injection can all be read from the user interface.

An Injection Tap may also be known as an Active Response Tap
10/100 12x3 Aggregation Tap Switch
10/100 12x3 Aggregation Tap Switch
Network Tap group: Copper Taps

The 10/100 12x3 Aggregation Tap Switch allows selectable monitoring of any one of 12 network streams. Each of the 12 network ports provides a fail-safe connection for network traffic. The network connection will not be interrupted or otherwise disrupted during a power failure or during the monitoring process. The tap has 3 separate outputs which can all be used at the same time. One standard dual output provides two separate streams, one for each side of the network being monitored. The aggregated outputs provide a single stream that merges both sides of the network port's traffic, thus reducing port usage on analyzers, IDS and IPS devices. A 32 Megabyte buffer is included to prevent loss during periods of heavy network utilization. Data speed conversion is also performed, allowing monitoring of 10 Mb/S networks with 100 Mb/S analyzers.

The network to be monitored is selected locally through the front panel pushbuttons or a serial port console and can also be selected remotely via a Telnet console, any Web browser or an SNMP manager. The serial and TCP/IP connections also allow diagnostic and management data to be viewed such as port connect speeds, activity and duplex settings. Automated time-sequenced stepping between ports can also be performed via the serial and TCP/IP connections.
A ZERO Delay feature also ensures no loss or interruption of network data if power to the Tap fails or when ports are switched.
