n-OTDR - High resolution photon-counting OTDR

  • High sensitivity (-110 dBm)
  • High resolution (sub-cm range)
  • Options for most types of fibres (SM, MM and POFs)
  • Up to 4 wavelengths, either between 500 nm and 900 nm, or between 1300 nm and 1620 nm.
  • Available either as a standalone (battery-powered option), or as a module with an external PC

The photon-counting Optical Time Domain Reflectometer or n-OTDR (n being the standard symbol for a photon), is a high dynamic-range, short distance OTDR.

The n-OTDR is a specialist OTDR which allows the analysis of short optical networks (up to 40 km for single mode fibers, with measurements windows between 200 m and 800 m). It features a very high spatial resolution (in the centimetre range) - compared with a typical resolution of several metres for a standard OTDR - and can differentiate separate events only 10cm apart.

The n-OTDR is available in different configurations to match the wide range of fibres and wavelengths used in standard and specialist applications. These include singlemode fibers, multimode fibres and plastic optical fibres, with standard wavelengths at 520 nm, 650 nm, 850 nm, 1310 nm, 1550 nm and 1620 nm. There can be up to 4 wavelengths in one single instrument, either in telecom windows or at shorter wavelengths.

The n-OTDR is often custom-designed to match specific customer requirements, so do not hesitate to contact us to see if we can fulfill your requirements - or to request datsheets and application whitepapers.
