| BlueStripe FactFinder™ Application Management Software
Today's applications are made up of multiple technologies, from packaged apps to custom code, messaging middleware to security and directory services, and physical machines to virtual & cloud infrastructure. An effective application management solution must see the entire application system, in real-time, incorporating changes as they occur, to measure performance metrics across the infrastructures.
FactFinder is a powerful solution that automatically discovers, maps, and monitors all business transactions running across the infrastructure. FactFinder measures transaction performance, hop-by-hop, across full application systems wherever transactions go (including virtual machines, private cloud, and third party services). When transaction problems occur, FactFinder follows the slow or hung transaction right to the problem component; then drills down the server stack to determine why the problem occurred.
This unmatched visibility into all the interconnections and dependencies enables effective and easy management of application transaction systems including monitoring and mapping, root cause analysis, benchmarking, forecasting and planning, enabling IT Operations teams to more effectively manage application and transaction availability.
FactFinder 5.6 includes a unique analytics engine called Correlatron. Correlatron leverages FactFinder's awareness of all transaction dependencies to filter out metrics that aren't related to a specific transaction or application. When problems occur, Correlatron analyzes the remaining metrics to identify the most likely problem areas for examination, accelerating root cause isolation. In typical environments, Correlatron pares down millions of metrics to a few thousand relevant to the transaction; final analysis gets the set of problem candidates to 10 or 20 culprits.
Complete transaction dependency visibility allows FactFinder to solve difficult problems (like when a slow transaction is caused by resource depletion from a second application). Correlatron will automatically discover that “hidden” relationship – and identify it as the first place to look. It's that kind of problem solving that makes FactFinder the NEXT generation transaction management solution.

24/7 Application System
Monitoring
FactFinder’s enterprise-wide application monitoring makes you aware of everything important about application performance for all your applications on a single dashboard. With 24/7 monitoring of thousands of servers across all platforms - physical, virtual, and cloud - and the ability to drill down into individual applications spanning to hundreds of servers, FactFinder helps you resolve issues before end users are impacted.
FactFinder’s App Center dashboard includes an unmatched number of visual monitoring tools that deliver an application-centric view of application performance and system resources, including:
- Roll-over application response time & throughput graphs
- Real-time views of the slowest and busiest applications
- Live alert conditions shown in a highlighted Event & Alert Window

You can set thresholds on any application component, process, or inter-process connection. When performance or availability metrics cross a threshold, FactFinder can take several distinct actions:
- Send an alert via e-mail, SMS, the FactFinder Console, or even another management tool
- Execute a script to automate recovery, like re-booting a server
While thresholds are easy to set, FactFinder also includes several pre-set thresholds requiring no human configuration for alerting.

Application Problem Management
When applications slow down, FactFinder delivers everything you need to quickly resolve any issues. With visibility across the full application system into service request response times, FactFinder provides the details needed for you to quickly:
- Identify the slow component by following the service requests
- Isolate the problematic process by drilling into the component
- Prove the findings to the rest of the team
To isolate the cause of an application slow-down using FactFinder, you simply follow 2 easy steps:
- Follow the service requests across the application to focus on the specific component where the slow-down is occurring
- Drill down into the identified component to isolate the problematic process.

important about an App on a single screen (click on image to enlarge) |
Not only can this be done with live data, but also with historical data by choosing a time range with a few clicks. All the performance data from the historical period will be pulled into the FactFinder Console. In some cases, FactFinder leverages its Rewind™ flight recorder feature to retrieve performance data about components you weren’t actually monitoring.
After you isolate or resolve the issue, click a button to print a Triage Report to communicate findings to other team members with facts they will recognize and can act on.

Application Benchmarking and Forecasting
FactFinder makes it fast and easy for you to compare application performance or configuration data from before and after an application event – such as updated software installation, deployment of a new release, or inclusion in a virtualization project.
Application benchmarking is easy with FactFinder Snapshots. With a click, you see all important metrics, application shapes, and configuration aspects of a single application over a range of time or with live data.
At any time, you can quickly and easily create comparison reports that show the differences in an application across two time periods. Inputs to the Comparison Report include:
- Any FactFinder Snapshot of the same application
- Live data from an App Explorer Workbench tab
- Historical data from an App Explorer Workbench tab
